Set in a post-apocalyptic frozen wasteland, the story follows an amnesiac man who wakes up in a ramshackle fringe shelter of a human settlement. He is mistaken for the settlement’s cruel former Engine Master Thorne, with a young boy Orion calling him father and the stern Vanguard Captain Kaelen introduced as his partner. Plagued by the tyrant’s bad reputation, Thorne uses his survival skills and engineering knowledge to set traps, repair facilities, secure food and fuel, and gradually wins the trust of marginalized residents. As he and Kaelen grow from mutual suspicion to deep affection, fragmented memories resurface, revealing his true identity as the original First Engine Master, who was betrayed and thrown into the frozen lake years ago. When the truth unfolds, he reunites with his long-lost lover Kaelen, and together they protect their family and the entire settlement from raiders and deadly extreme cold.
